THE COMPETITION: The Congressional Art Competition is a contest for high school students living in the 7th Congressional District of Pennsylvania. A board of art enthusiasts and experts will choose category winners and "best in show".
THE WINNER: The artwork designated "best in show" will represent the 7th Congressional District in Washington DC for one year. Mr. Brad Montgomery of Montgomery Galleries will professionally frame the winning piece, free of charge for the artist.
THE RECEPTION: The reception and awards presentation is open to the public. It will be held at the Wayne Art Center (413 Maplewood Avenue, Wayne, PA 19087-4792) on April 19, 2010 from 7:00PM-9:00PM.
THE SHOW: Student Art Work will be displayed at the Wayne Art Center from April 19, 2010 - April 30, 2010.
HOW TO ENTER: Each high school that serves the 7th Congressional District may enter 5 pieces of art. A teacher or administrator from each interested high School must submit the Teacher Reply Form by March 19, 2010 to secure their school's particpation. Interested students should contact their high school art teacher.
Participating students must reside in the 7th Congressional District of Pennsylvania and should plan on attending the awards presentation and reception on 4/19/2010 at 7:00PM. Student Artwork must be dropped off at the Wayne Art Center by 4/16/2010 and will remain on display until 4/30/2010. The best in show winner should expect to have his/her art in the US Capitol until early summer 2011.
All entries must observe the following guidelines:

Artwork must be two dimensional

Each piece can be no larger than 28”x28”x 4” (28 inches high, 28 inches wide, and 4 inches deep) including the frame. Artwork cannot weigh more than 15 lbs.

Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing photo (not the student’s own), painting, graphic, advertisement, or any other work produced by another person is a violation of the competition rules and will not be accepted. Work entered must be in the original medium (that is, not a scanned reproduction of a painting or drawing).

The following mediums will be accepted:

Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.

Drawings: pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, markers

Collage: must be two dimensional

Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints

Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.

Computer-generated art

Photography

A TYPED and securely affixed large label must be applied to the back of each piece that includes the following information:

A TYPED copy of the Student Release form, signed by both the teacher and the student ,must be submitted with the artwork to certify the originality of the piece

Each piece should be equipped with a wire for hanging.
